I am Professor of Public Policy and Management in the Department of Public Leadership and Social Enterprise and Director for the Centre of Innovation in Online Business and Legal Education (SCILAB). I am also Chair on the MBA programme.
I began my career working in The City of London for a commodity trading information firm based on Fleet Street London and moved into HE in 2003.
I am Principle Fellow of The Higher Education Academy and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
I was Editor in Chief of the Sage Journal Management in Education (MiE) from 2016- 2021, and founder editor of The Belmas Blog. For 4 years (2016 -19) I was non executive Director, Chair of Governance, and Deputy Chair of The Fawcett Society , London. I served for 25 years as school governor at primary, middle and secondary schools in Bedfordshire. During this time i also served as Elected Member of the Select Committee for Lifelong Learning, Bedfordshire.

My research interests lie in the area of public service leadership, governance, management and accountablity, and i have a particular focus on the strategic leadership of education. My approach to strategic leadership is in relation to strategy as practice /strategy is learning. I am interested in supervising phd studies that focus on any aspect of strategic leadership in the public services.
