Identity of reader is very tentative. There is no provenance but this is one of several annotated language books in the collection. The others have John Drummond Erskine's provenance. Although there are other similarily marked language items in the collection, clearly associated with John Drummond Erskine, many of his books had previous owners. A possible provenance has either been cut off the title page or been accidentally torn off.
