Additional Comments:
The identity of this text and of its author 'George' is uncertain. The familiar tone of the reference suggests a friend or family member. It may therefore refer to George Macaulay Trevelyan (1876-1962) who was related by marriage to Gertrude Bell's half sister Mary Katherine ('Molly'), the latter having married George's elder brother Sir Charles Trevelyan. The book could be 'British History in the Nineteenth Century' (1922). Gertrude Bell had in fact thanked her father for sending the book (referred here too as 'George's book') on 12 October 1922.
