[Catherine Talbot to Elizabeth Carter, 9 June 1761:]
'My dear Mr Hanway has published two volumes at last, which you saw, and only told me you had seen them, but for which I love and honour him (and so far as spending thirty hours upon them I believe I shall also [italics] obey [end italics] him) as much as the world, and the wits, and the critics will, I suppose, despise him [...] Not that I would have licensed [italics] every [end italics] word in his book neither, but the whole delights me.'
